the Pahlavi monarchy

de bene esse: literally, of well-being, morally acceptable but subject to future validation or exception

The Iranian Revolution of 1977- 79 ended the monarchy.  For 200 years, two monarchic dynansties prevailed - the Qajars (1789-1926) and the Pahlavis (1926-1979).

The unpopularity of the Pahlavi's was long in progress while they enjoyed wealth, luxury and power and it was abruptly swept away, as has often been done.

The young adult royals of that lost dynasty watched perplexed as the youth of their country stood for democracy while they could find no place for themselves within it.  Prince Alireza Pahlavi committed suicide recently having followed his sister Leila's suicide in 2001.

Sad end to lives of quiet desperation.
