A Spanish Galleon, the Atocha, was laden with gold and silver from the new world when it sunk in 1622 having broken up in a hurricane.  The uber famous wreck has yielded more than 100,000 Spanish silver coins, known as 'pieces of eight' - haul included 40 tonnes of gold and silver and Colombian emeralds.  Other artifacts have been discovered additonally.

Hundreds of years of water currents and hurricanes has spread the dimensions of the wreck but divers expect they are on the right track and expect to find more treasure in this $500 million enterprise.
