We know speech therapist, Lionel Logue championed Albert, Duke of York and future King in the beloved film The King's Speech but there was another great supporter of the Duke, his friend Louis Greig.  A naval surgeon from Glasgow and Albert's best friend.

They met at the Royal Naval College - 'Bertie' as a desperately vulnerable boy, terrorised by his father, overshadowed by his older brother and lacking every confidence.  Greig was 28, the college surgeon and a sporting hero as Scotland's rugby champion and captain - a big personality, cherished by the royal family and purveyor of colourful language. The young royal desperately needed a guide, a friend, someone to believe in him.

Irreverent and witty ... my kind of personality!

Louis Greig stood by his friend through every phase and challenge of his young life until his successful union with Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon saw her take the mantle of encouragement.

A new book documents Greig's timeless example of a true friend, having lived an altogther successful life, it is just that Louis Greig be always and fondly remembered as a beacon of friendship.
